In this first episode we share a little about who we are, and point our new listeners to our Simple Good Life Network and podcast so they can learn a little more about us and the life we were living in our dream come true NW Georgia Mountains homestead before the horrific “C” cancer bomb was dropped on us.
In this first episode we reveal our vision, goals and our passion for the GOD is Bigger than Cancer podcast and ministry to foster Faith, Hope and Healing and to provide reliable information and resources for the benefit and blessings of those battling cancer, their loved ones and for their caregivers. We share what you may expect to hear and learn in future episodes of this podcast, and our plans for developing the God is Bigger than Cancer website.
We give special thanks to two extraordinary people who have so generously contributed their time and talents to help us with our podcast, website and graphic artwork. Cliff Ravenscraft, the Podcast Answerman, our dear and special friend, and we are so pleased to announce an early sponsor of the God is Bigger than Cancer podcast is one of those two special people. Jenny Hamson, a talented graphic artist and another special friend is the other person.
We offer our sincere thanks to our listeners, we are here for you and we always value and welcome your participation and your comments and suggestions regarding content and guests for future episodes. Most of all we thank you all for your amazing outpouring of love and for your life giving, healing prayers. God bless you all, we love and appreciate you all so much.
By His grace we look forward to bringing you the next episode of this podcast. Until then may we please encourage you to Love Big…Pray Big…and Trust Big, because God is Bigger than Cancer and in Christ Jesus you are too!

Saying it’s a ‘nice’ episode doesn’t quite seem right but it was. I heard about your situation and the podcast via @CliffRavenscraft and even though I’ve had more than enough experience with cancer to want to hear about more, I decided to check it out. Great job and I’m glad I listened.
Don’t know if you can take any comfort in this but here goes: In 2003 my wife Jane (my high school sweetheart as well and married now 44 years ) was diagnosed with IBC or Inflammatory Breast Cancer, a somewhat rare and extremely deadly form of breast cancer. It is generally stage 3 at diagnosis (hers was as well) and was and is often misdiagnosed because of the manner in which it generally presents ( what seems to be a ‘rash’ on the breast, not always tumors so mammograms don’t catch it).
For a number of reasons, including lack of knowledge of this form of breast cancer, misdiagnosis as a skin condition etc. and the very aggressive nature of the disease, it was often fatal and the data suggested a life expectancy of around 18 months. We really had to stop looking up info on the internet because it was behind the curve and completely discouraging.
That was over 8 years, several surgeries, chemo, radiation the whole nine yards ago. Now, IBC is still considered incurable but the knowledge about and treatments for IBC have improved and there is certainly more hope in 2012 for women diagnosed with IBC than in 2003.
I know you have a completely different form of cancer and I know that you know the ‘odds’. But we knew the ‘odds’ 8-9 years ago as well and they weren’t good. In any case, the ‘odds’ mean nothing. The odds probably say you have a better chance of getting hit by a meteor than for getting this type cancer. God doesn’t play the odds. hummm…that sound’s like a possible episode title.
However, while none of us may know exactly how these situations fit into His bigger plan, you and I both do know the power of prayer . Jane had people nationwide praying for her then and still does now. We know that that has made a difference for her, for us. And it will for you two as well.
God bless you both. I can hear your gentle spirits in the sound of your voices and I know you will be comforted by the thousands of faithful people who will be praying for you as you take, and one day complete, this difficult journey.
“even though I’ve had more than enough experience with cancer to want to hear about more, I decided to check it out.” Tommy, quoting from your much appreciated comment, you and Jane sure do have more than enough experience with cancer so we are especially thankful that you took the time to stop by and check it out.
It is a pleasure to meet you folks and thank you for sharing Jane’s and your long battle with Jane’s IBC. From learning a little of your story it is obvious that Jane is an exceptional woman of faith, a true fighter and a real winner. Lynne and I consider it an honor to join in with the many others nationwide in praying for Jane to have complete healing and a glorious victory over IBC.
Thank you for your kind words regarding the God is Bigger than Cancer podcast and for your very encouraging and hopeful comments.
…the ‘odds’ mean nothing…God doesn’t play the odds. hummm…that sound’s like a possible episode title. AMEN!…God doesn’t play the odds because God is Bigger than Cancer and AMEN!…that is a great title to an upcoming episode I have already plan to produce, but didn’t have a title for yet, regarding understanding cancer statistics. I wonder if we would have to pay a royalty or professional copywriter fee for use of that episode title?:)
PS Congratulations on your new Actors Talk Podcast. I am at the cancer center in the process of a long 5 hour chemo treatment and I’ve listened to the first 3 of your podcast and have enjoyed them and compliment you on the quality of your audio and the informative and interesting content. As soon as I complete this reply I am looking forward to hearing your interview with actor-producer Benjamin Dane. I was supposed to use this treatment time to write an outline for our next episode but got caught up enjoying your podcasts. Keep up the good work!

Dear Chiraphon,
Thank you for contacting us with your prayer request. Your request to us for prayer is both humbling to us and an honor for us. Please know as soon as we received your comment, Barry and I went to our Father specifically for you and for your comfort, hope, strength, and complete healing of your colon cancer.
Please accept my sincere apology that I just now realized that when we prayed at the time of your request, we did not also immediately respond to your comment on our website.
It was, and is our continuing privilege to bring your prayer request before our heavenly Father for healing of your colon cancer, because we know and trust that GOD is Bigger than Cancer.
As scripture declares:
By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see. Acts 3:16 (NIV)
Likewise, we are standing and believing in faith with you, Chiraphon. May God keep His loving hand upon you and continue to bless you.
Hello Lynne & Barry
I just wanted to tell you that you are both in my thoughts and prayers. I was so sorry to hear that last episode of Living The Simple Good Life and was so saddened to hear about Barry’s cancer.
I don’t know if you remember me. I e-mailed you about a year ago now I guess. My husband Vic was in Iraq and we also were trying to move to a homestead. You and your friends prayed for us and we talked about doing an interview on the show. Your Godly love and caring for our situation so touched my heart and really endeared me to you both. Please keep us posted on Barry’s progress. I will be also listening to your podcasts and sharing your Itunes and website link with others.
Please know you have blessed us and I am sure so many others by you both sharing your journey through all this. May God richly bless you, comfort you, and keep you in his grip.
We love you both.
